Gaya (Bihar) [India], September 14 (ANI): Union Minister and Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) founder Jitan Ram Manjhi on Sunday reiterated his request to contest 20 seats in the upcoming Bihar assembly elections under the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), calling it a “do-or-die” situation for his party if sufficient seats are not allocated.
Manjhi told reporters, “We haven’t set any such target yet. But it is true that it is a do-or-die situation for us… We will request the NDA to allocate enough seats so that our party gains recognition in the Vidhan Sabha.” On September 3, he had formally demanded 20 seats for HAM in the forthcoming elections.
He added, “The common people and our workers demand that we need such seats that will save our dignity. If the NDA has sympathy for us in their hearts to grant recognition to our party, they should give us at least 20 seats in the Bihar legislative assembly election.” Manjhi is a former Chief Minister of Bihar.
HAM is officially in alliance with the ruling NDA, which also includes the BJP, JD(U), and LJP. Bihar assembly elections are expected in October or November, though the Election Commission of India (ECI) has not yet announced an official schedule.
Currently, the Bihar Assembly has 243 members. The NDA holds 131 seats, with the BJP at 80 MLAs, JD(U) at 45, HAM(S) at 4, and support from 2 independent candidates. The opposition INDIA bloc, led by the RJD, has 111 members: RJD with 77 MLAs, Congress 19, CPI(ML) 11, CPI(M) 2, and CPI 2. (ANI)
