Washington, DC [US], June 18 (ANI): US President Donald Trump is scheduled to meet with Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, General Asim Munir, over lunch on Wednesday. The official White House itinerary for Wednesday lists a lunch meeting with the Pakistani general.
General Asim Munir is currently on a visit to the United States. During his trip, Munir faced protests from overseas Pakistanis and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) activists on Monday. Protesters chanted slogans such as “Pakistanio ke Qatil” (Murderer of Pakistanis) and “Islamabad ke Qatil” (Murderer of Islamabad) as Munir was welcomed at an event in Washington, DC. Videos of the protests have surfaced on social media.
Nazia Imtiaz Hussain, a user on X who identifies herself as the Executive Director of The Alliance Organisation, stated that they were protesting against the “criminal dictator of Pakistan” and criticized those who supported what she described as fascism.
While sharing the video on X, Hussain wrote, “We’re here to protest the criminal dictator of Pakistan. Shame on every bootlicker who showed up in support of fascism — you didn’t just betray democracy; you spit on the suffering of millions.”
PTI USA also reshared the videos, showing people protesting against General Munir outside the Four Seasons Hotel in Washington. The group wrote on X, “Pakistani-Americans in Washington, DC are protesting outside the Four Seasons Hotel, reminding General Asim Munir of the crimes he’s committed against the people of Pakistan.”
Meanwhile, President Trump is currently dealing with a rapidly intensifying crisis in West Asia. On Tuesday, he posted a series of messages on Truth Social demanding an “unconditional surrender” by Iran. He also held a meeting with his national security team.
In his posts, Trump claimed that “we” now have “complete and total control of the skies over Iran” and added, “we know exactly where the so-called ‘Supreme Leader’ is hiding.” He warned, “Our patience is wearing thin,” before concluding with a post that read, “UNCONDITIONAL SURRENDER!”
Ironically, General Asim Munir and Pakistan have emerged as one of the strongest supporters of Iran. In a recent speech in Washington, DC, Munir stated that his country stands with Iran, while also expressing hope that the ongoing conflict would end soon.
Israel has launched a series of airstrikes on Iranian military and nuclear targets, prompting retaliatory attacks from Tehran. President Trump has been vocal in his support for Israel, reiterating that Iran must not be allowed to develop nuclear weapons. (ANI)
