Auraiya (Uttar Pradesh) [India], June 8 (ANI): Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday emphasized that the “double engine” government—referring to the alignment between the central and state governments led by the Bharatiya Janata Party—is committed to creating a secure and prosperous future for the state’s farmers.
Addressing farmers at the Kisan Samman Samaroh event in Auraiya, CM Yogi highlighted that since the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) came to power at the Centre in 2014, farmers have become central to the government’s political agenda. He praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership for introducing several initiatives aimed at improving agricultural infrastructure and farmer welfare.
“You must have seen for the first time in 2014 that the farmer, who feeds the nation, became a part of a government’s core political agenda,” Yogi Adityanath said. He credited the Prime Minister’s Soil Health Card Scheme, Agricultural Irrigation Scheme, Crop Insurance Scheme, and the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana as transformational programs. “Today, 12 crore farmers across the country are benefiting from the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi,” he added.
The Chief Minister also recalled the situation when the BJP government came to power in Uttar Pradesh in 2017. “Farmers were committing suicide. There were no facilities anywhere,” he said. Highlighting his government’s immediate actions, he noted that the administration implemented a loan waiver program of ₹36,000 crore, benefiting 86 lakh farmers. “Following that, we used the Prime Minister’s Agricultural Irrigation Scheme to improve the state’s irrigation capacity,” he said.
In addition to agricultural policies, CM Yogi also chaired a high-level review of the State Tax Department in Lucknow, instructing officials to pursue transparency, technological efficiency, and strict enforcement in tax collection. He specifically directed action against shell companies and fraudulently registered businesses.
Further, in a meeting with the 16th Finance Commission, CM Yogi presented Uttar Pradesh’s development achievements over the past eight years. State Finance Minister Suresh Khanna shared that the Chief Minister put forth key demands, including an increase in the state’s share of central taxes. “Instead of the 41 percent share we receive now, we should get 50 percent. Uttar Pradesh should not get less than 20 percent in central tax distribution,” Khanna said.
Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya added, “Based on our presentation, it was evident that the Finance Commission was satisfied with our progress. We are confident that Uttar Pradesh will receive favorable recommendations and make significant strides in the years ahead.” (ANI)
