
New Delhi [India], August 5 (ANI): President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday extended a warm welcome to President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr. of the Philippines at Rashtrapati Bhavan and hosted a banquet in his honour, marking a significant milestone in the bilateral relationship as both nations celebrate 75 years of diplomatic ties.
In a post on X, the President of India stated, “President Droupadi Murmu received President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr. of the Philippines at Rashtrapati Bhavan and hosted a banquet in his honour. Both leaders agreed that this visit, which coincides with the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, will help in building a strong Strategic Partnership between India and the Philippines.”
The visit is expected to boost cooperation in multiple areas, with both leaders expressing confidence in the future of India-Philippines relations and reaffirming their commitment to expanding their strategic partnership.
Earlier in the day, President Marcos Jr. also met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Hyderabad House. Speaking to the media at the forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhavan, he highlighted the evolving nature of regional cooperation, stating, “Indo-Pacific is the correct evolution of Asia-Pacific.” He emphasized that his visit reaffirms the alliance and shared values between India and the Philippines.
President Marcos Jr. began his five-day State Visit to India on Monday and held discussions with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar. This is his first official visit to India since taking office in 2022 and is being viewed as a significant step toward enhancing diplomatic, economic, and security cooperation.
He is accompanied by First Lady Louise Araneta Marcos and a high-level delegation that includes several Cabinet Ministers. The visit, scheduled from August 4 to 8, is expected to see the signing of multiple agreements and memoranda of understanding across various sectors. (ANI)
