Doha [Qatar], November 16 (ANI): External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met the Amir of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, on Sunday to discuss expanding collaboration and strengthening bilateral ties.
In a post on X, Jaishankar said, “Honoured to call on H.H. @TamimBinHamad, the Amir of Qatar, in Doha today. Conveyed the warm greetings of PM @narendramodi and reiterated our commitment to stronger India-Qatar relations. Value his guidance on expanding collaboration and exploring new opportunities.”
Earlier in October, Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal visited Qatar, where he met the CEO of Qatar Development Bank, Abdulrahman Hesham Al-Sowaidi. Goyal expressed delight at Qatari businesses’ interest in opportunities offered by the Indian economy. He also co-chaired the India-Qatar Joint Commission on Economic and Commercial Cooperation alongside Faisal bin Thani bin Faisal Al Thani, Minister of Commerce and Industry of Qatar. During his visit, Goyal launched India’s own UPI at Lulu Hypermarket in Doha, facilitating seamless and cost-effective transactions between the two countries.
In September, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, reaffirming their commitment to strengthening the India-Qatar Strategic Partnership. Both leaders expressed satisfaction over continued progress in trade, investment, and security cooperation, and reaffirmed their mutual commitment to advancing bilateral cooperation across all areas of interest.
During the call, PM Modi also conveyed concern over recent strikes in Doha targeting Hamas leaders by Israel, condemning violations of Qatar’s sovereignty and emphasizing India’s support for Qatar’s efforts to promote peace and stability in the region. Modi appreciated Qatar’s mediation role in the Gaza conflict, including facilitating a ceasefire and the release of hostages.
Sheikh Tamim thanked PM Modi for India’s solidarity and expressed appreciation for India’s ongoing support in promoting regional peace. (ANI)
