Washington, DC [US], June 4 (ANI): Tesla CEO Elon Musk has escalated his criticism of former President Donald Trump’s latest legislative initiative, labeling a major congressional spending bill as a “disgusting abomination” in a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter).
Musk, who recently stepped down from his advisory role on government efficiency reforms, blasted the House-approved bill on Tuesday, stating, “This massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination. Shame on those who voted for it: you know you did wrong.”
He continued his critique by warning that the bill would “massively increase the already gigantic budget deficit to USD 2.5 trillion,” and accused Congress of “making America bankrupt.”
Nicknamed the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” the legislation extends Trump’s 2017 tax cuts while ramping up military and border security funding. However, it also includes significant reductions to Medicaid, food assistance programs, and other essential social support services.
The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office estimates the bill will add approximately USD 3.8 trillion to the federal debt—already at USD 36.2 trillion—over the next decade.
Senate deliberations on the bill are ongoing, with Trump reportedly lobbying senators to back the expansive legislative package.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt downplayed Musk’s statements during Tuesday’s briefing, saying, “The president already knows where Elon Musk stood on this bill. It doesn’t change the president’s opinion. This is one big, beautiful bill, and he’s sticking to it.”
Musk had previously voiced concerns over the legislation’s fiscal impact and its implications for government efficiency. Following its passage in the House, he announced his resignation as a “special government employee” with the Department of Government Efficiency.
Despite Musk’s sharp remarks, Trump stood by the bill during a Friday press conference in the Oval Office, calling it “an unbelievable bill” that “cuts your deficits,” while also suggesting he would have preferred even larger tax cuts.
Musk did not respond further during the press conference. (ANI)
