The visit to Denmark is part of Jaishankar’s official tour of the Netherlands, Denmark, and Germany from May 19 to 24.
Earlier, the External Affairs Minister concluded a two-day official visit to the Netherlands from May 19 to 20, which underscored the strategic partnership between India and the Dutch government. During the visit, Jaishankar held high-level meetings with top Dutch leaders, including Prime Minister Dick Schoof and Foreign Minister Caspar Veldkamp, focusing on enhancing collaboration across sectors such as trade, technology, and defense.
“External Affairs Minister (EAM), Dr. S. Jaishankar, paid an official visit to the Netherlands from 19-20 May 2025. During the visit, EAM called on HE Dick Schoof, Prime Minister of the Netherlands. Both sides expressed satisfaction at the growing strategic convergences in the India-Netherlands relationship, and agreed further to strengthen bilateral ties through regular high-level visits and exchanges. EAM conveyed India’s appreciation for the statement of solidarity from the Netherlands in the fight against terrorism,” the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said in a statement on Tuesday.
In a separate meeting with Foreign Minister Caspar Veldkamp, both ministers reviewed the full scope of bilateral cooperation, as well as regional and global issues of mutual concern. The two leaders expressed satisfaction over progress in key sectors including trade and economy, science and technology, water management, agriculture, health, education, culture, and people-to-people connections. They also explored collaboration in emerging domains such as digital technology, semiconductors, artificial intelligence, and green hydrogen.
Jaishankar also met with Dutch Defence Minister Ruben Brekelmans to discuss pathways for advancing defense and security cooperation. Both sides agreed to further deepen engagement in the defense sector.
Additionally, Jaishankar addressed a gathering of prominent strategic and international affairs experts from various Dutch think tanks. His remarks emphasized the importance of deeper engagement between India and the Netherlands and the broader EU in an era defined by multipolarity and strategic autonomy.
During his stay, Jaishankar also interacted with members of the Indian diaspora in the Netherlands, reinforcing India’s ongoing commitment to its global Indian community.
“EAM’s visit, coming within a month of the visit of Minister Caspar Veldkamp to India in April 2025, reflects the commitment of both sides for regular and sustained engagement between the two countries, and has led to further deepening of bilateral ties,” the MEA added.
