Palm Beach County [US], January 3 (ANI): Hours after the United States carried out strikes in Venezuela that resulted in the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores, US President Donald Trump praised the operation, calling it a complex maneuver and lauding the professionalism of the US armed forces.
Speaking to Fox News, Trump said, “It was amazing to see the professionalism — the quality of leadership…To have a few injuries, but no deaths on our side is really amazing.” He described the operation as highly intricate, involving landings, multiple aircraft, helicopters, and fighter jets, noting that the forces executed the mission with precision.
Trump emphasized that the US aims to ensure liberty for the people of Venezuela. On the future of the country following Maduro’s capture, he said, “We can’t take a chance of letting somebody else run and just take over where he left off…We want liberty for the people.” He added that Venezuelans were reportedly pleased with the outcome, citing the harm caused by drug trafficking and the smuggling of prisoners into the United States as part of Maduro’s actions.
The operation, conducted in coordination with US law enforcement, successfully captured Maduro and Flores and flew them out of Venezuela. Trump confirmed the mission on Truth Social, stating, “The United States of America has successfully carried out a large-scale strike against Venezuela and its leader, President Nicolas Maduro, who has been, along with his wife, captured and flown out of the country. This operation was done in conjunction with U.S. Law Enforcement. Details to follow. There will be a news conference today at 11 A.M., at Mar-a-Lago.”
US Attorney General Pamela Bondi announced that Maduro has been charged with Narco-Terrorism and will face US justice. “Nicolas Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, have been indicted in the Southern District of New York. Nicolas Maduro has been charged with Narco-Terrorism Conspiracy, Cocaine Importation Conspiracy, Possession of Machineguns and Destructive Devices, and Conspiracy to Possess Machineguns and Destructive Devices against the United States,” Bondi said in a post on X. She added, “They will soon face the full wrath of American justice on American soil in American courts. On behalf of the entire U.S. DOJ, I would like to thank President Trump for having the courage to demand accountability on behalf of the American people, and a huge thank you to our brave military who conducted the incredible and highly successful mission to capture these two alleged international narco-traffickers.”
