Tel Aviv [Israel], August 26 (ANI/TPS): Five suspects were arrested on Wednesday morning and formally indicted on charges related to what the Israel Police described as a “serious case” of defrauding elderly citizens by a Georgian criminal gang.
The fraud amounted to more than 1.5 million shekels (USD 446,000). Police said that following an investigation, authorities were able to identify and compile about 100 cases of fraud from across the country with similar criminal patterns, all suspected to be linked to the same gang. The complaints were filed primarily by elderly victims.
Investigators revealed that gang members operated systematically, with some members deliberately pressing against elderly men or women on buses, while others stole their wallets and mobile phones. The suspects then used various methods to withdraw money from the victims’ bank accounts, stealing more than one and a half million shekels in total. (ANI/TPS)
