Arizona [US], September 22 (ANI): US President Donald Trump and Tesla CEO Elon Musk were seen sitting side by side at the memorial service for conservative activist Charlie Kirk, marking their first public encounter since Musk’s tense resignation from government service earlier this year.
The two men, once at odds, were observed speaking privately in a suite during the service, with the White House highlighting their interaction on social media. Musk later shared a photo with Trump on X, captioned simply: “For Charlie.”
Musk had previously served as head of the Department of Government Efficiency until May, when he resigned after denouncing the administration’s flagship policy bill as “fiscally irresponsible.” The fallout escalated on social media, with Musk sharply criticising Trump and the president threatening to cancel federal contracts with Musk’s companies. Their appearance together at the memorial represents a notable thaw in their strained relationship, The Hill reported.
Vice President JD Vance delivered impassioned remarks, urging supporters to carry forward Kirk’s legacy. “For Charlie, we will speak the truth every single day. For Charlie, we will rebuild this United States of America to greatness. For Charlie, we will never shrink, we will never cower, and we will never falter, even when staring down the barrel of a gun,” Vance said. He described Kirk as both a patriot and a man of faith, calling him “a hero to the United States of America” and “a martyr for the Christian faith.”
Vance also condemned those who mocked Kirk’s death. “In the wake of his death, we have seen some of the very worst parts of humanity. We have watched people slander him. We have watched people justify his murder and celebrate his death,” he said.
Kirk’s widow, Erika Kirk, delivered an emotional tribute in which she publicly forgave Tyler Robinson, the 22-year-old accused of fatally shooting her husband on September 10 at Utah Valley University. “I forgive him, I forgive him because it is what Christ did. The answer to hate is not hate,” she said, quoting Jesus’ words on the cross: “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.”
Charlie Kirk, 31, was the founder of Turning Point USA and a prominent conservative commentator. He was fatally shot in the neck while speaking on campus, according to The New York Times. Authorities arrested Robinson shortly after the incident, with officials noting his alleged left-leaning political views.
The service drew national attention not only as a tribute to Kirk’s life but also as a moment of reconciliation among powerful figures who came together—for Charlie. (ANI)
