West Kameng (Arunachal Pradesh) [India], April 25 (ANI): A massive forest fire broke out in the Dirang area of Arunachal Pradesh’s West Kameng district, engulfing several acres of land in the Nadipar forest region near Dirang town. Fortunately, no human casualties or property damage have been reported so far.
Dirang MLA Phurpa Tsering confirmed that the fire, which sparked concern among local communities, was successfully brought under control by the evening of April 24. The coordinated efforts of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), local police, fire services, district administration, and residents were crucial in extinguishing the blaze.
“There was no report of any casualty and no property damage,” MLA Tsering told ANI over the phone.
The incident follows a similar emergency in February, when a massive fire erupted at Tenga Market, also in West Kameng district. That fire, which broke out in the early morning hours, prompted a swift response from Indian Army personnel of the Gajraj Corps. Army teams deployed firefighting equipment and worked alongside local agencies to contain the flames and safeguard the area.
The Indian Army’s role during the February fire was widely acknowledged as an example of effective civil-military cooperation, with personnel providing not just fire suppression but also humanitarian support to affected residents.
Authorities are continuing to monitor the affected forest area near Dirang, and residents have been urged to remain vigilant as the region remains vulnerable to such natural hazards during the dry season.
