Bilaspur (Chhattisgarh) November 4, 2025 (ANI): At least 8 people were killed and several others injured when a passenger MEMU train collided with a stationary goods train near Bilaspur railway station in Chhattisgarh on Tuesday afternoon. The tragic incident occurred around 4 pm when the MEMU train coach rammed into the goods train close to the Bilaspur yard.
Bilaspur District Collector (DC) Sanjay Agrawal confirmed the fatalities and said that rescue operations were immediately launched. “The last bogie of a local train collided with the first bogie of a goods train near Bilaspur. Four people have lost their lives in the accident. Rescue operation is underway,” Agrawal told ANI.
Inspector General (IG) Sanjeev Shukla added that emergency teams, including railway personnel and local police, were working to rescue trapped passengers and provide medical aid to the injured. “A MEMU train and a goods train collided, in which some people have been injured. We are trying to rescue a person trapped inside,” he said.
Following the accident, the South East Central Railway mobilised all available resources for relief and rescue operations. The injured were rushed to nearby hospitals, and medical teams were deployed on-site for immediate assistance.
The Railway Administration announced ex-gratia compensation of ₹10 lakh to the next of kin of those killed, ₹5 lakh to passengers who suffered grievous injuries, and ₹1 lakh to those with minor injuries. Officials also confirmed that a detailed inquiry into the cause of the accident will be conducted by the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS).
