
Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], June 9 (ANI): Four people have died and nine others were injured after falling from an overcrowded local train at Mumbra railway station in Thane district on Monday, a Railways official confirmed.
Central Railway Public Relations Officer Swapnil Dhanraj Nila said, “Out of the 13 people injured in the incident, four have lost their lives, and four others are undergoing medical treatment.” He added that the Railway Board has decided to retrofit all existing rakes to reduce such incidents. All new rakes will be air-conditioned and equipped with automatic door closure systems. Passengers have been urged to avoid traveling on the footboard.
The accident occurred on the down/fast line, disrupting local train services. Central Railways stated that some passengers traveling towards Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) fell from the train at Mumbra due to overcrowding. Railway and police authorities quickly arrived at the scene.
Shiv Sena MP Shrikant Shinde visited the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital in Kalwa to meet the injured. In a post on X, he expressed condolences for the deceased and assured that the administration is providing full assistance to those affected, wishing for the speedy recovery of the injured. (ANI)
