New Delhi [India], June 11 (ANI): Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has taken swift and decisive action after Border Security Force (BSF) personnel were assigned a train with substandard coaches for their deployment from Tripura to Kashmir for Amarnath Yatra duties.
In response to the incident, four officials from the Alipurduar Division of Indian Railways have been suspended.
“Action was taken on this yesterday itself. The train’s rake was changed. Four officers who were responsible for this have been suspended,” said Vaishnaw during a cabinet meeting briefing.
The suspended personnel include the Coaching Depot Officer of Alipurduar and three Senior Section Engineers from the same division.
Amid reports suggesting that 1,200 BSF personnel had refused to travel due to the poor train conditions, the BSF issued a clarification.
According to the statement, a few coaches initially allotted for the journey were in poor condition, and the matter was formally raised with Indian Railways via an official letter. Upon notification, the train was replaced, and arrangements were made for a more suitable and dignified mode of transport.
“A few coaches of the train initially allotted to our jawans were in poor condition. The issue was brought to the attention of Indian Railways through an official letter. Following this, a replacement train was arranged. The jawans will now continue their journey,” the BSF said in a statement.
In light of the situation, a special train from Agartala is being arranged exclusively for BSF personnel, with particular attention to comfort, safety, and respect for the jawans’ service.
The Ministry of Railways has also initiated a detailed inquiry to investigate how the lapse occurred and to ensure such incidents do not happen in the future.
Minister Vaishnaw emphasized that the dignity and convenience of India’s security forces are non-negotiable.
“Such negligence will not be tolerated at any level,” he said, underscoring the government’s commitment to upholding the honour of the nation’s armed personnel. (ANI)
