Panaji (Goa) [India], June 1 (ANI): Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant expressed great admiration on Sunday for Indian Navy officers Lt Cdr Dilna K and Lt Cdr Roopa A, congratulating them on their successful completion of the ‘Navika Sagar Parikrama II’ circumnavigation aboard the Indian Naval Sailing Vessel (INSV) Tarini. The ceremony took place in the presence of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh at INS Hansa.
In a heartfelt message on X, CM Sawant described their journey as a powerful testament to the courage, resilience, and determination of women serving the nation. “It was truly inspiring to hear firsthand about their remarkable courage, unwavering commitment, and exceptional endurance in completing this historic circumnavigation,” he said. He further noted that the Government of Goa looks forward to formally honoring their achievement soon.
The two officers returned to Goa on Saturday after sailing approximately 25,000 nautical miles (around 45,000 kilometers) over nearly eight months, marking a significant milestone for the Indian Navy’s women officers. A notable highlight of the expedition was reaching Point Nemo, known as the most remote place on Earth — a rare accomplishment for any sailing crew and a first for women officers in the Indian Navy.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh lauded the bravery and endurance of Lt Cdr Dilna and Lt Cdr Roopa during the flag-in ceremony of INSV Tarini. He acknowledged the mental and physical challenges faced during the long voyage over the lonely sea, noting that the crew endured months away from human contact and wildlife. Singh praised the expanding role of women in the armed forces, remarking that daughters of the country are excelling from the heights of Siachen to the depths of the ocean. “The doors of the schools of armed forces have been opened for women,” he said.
This remarkable journey by the two officers not only showcases India’s growing maritime capabilities but also highlights the vital contributions of women in defense and exploration. (ANI)
