
Surendranagar (Gujarat) [India], August 17 (ANI): Eight people were killed after a massive collision between two cars near Surendranagar in Gujarat on Sunday, police said.
Speaking to reporters, Surendranagar DSP Girish Kumar Pandya said, “On the highway connecting Lakhtar and Surendranagar, there was a collision between two cars. After the impact, a Maruti Dzire caught fire, and all eight people inside the vehicle died in the blaze.”
DSP Pandya further informed that the police have shifted all the bodies to the hospital. Identification and post-mortem examinations are underway. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
Meanwhile, in Delhi’s Moti Nagar area, a man died after being allegedly hit by a car on Friday, police said. The victim, identified as Bikshu Lal (40), was standing with his bike by the roadside when he was struck. The accused fled the scene, and police are conducting a search.
Bikshu Lal’s brother, Nomi Lal, told ANI that they learned about the accident on Saturday morning after repeated calls went unanswered. “He left home last night, telling his son he would be back in 10 minutes. The whole night, his son kept calling, and we were looking for him. In the morning, we found out what had happened. He was hit so badly that his bike was completely destroyed, and he suffered chest injuries. We want appropriate action to be taken. My brother has five children, and he was the sole breadwinner of the family,” he said.
Earlier this month, on August 1, a trailer caught fire along the Gandhidham-Kandla highway in Gujarat’s Kutch district, prompting firefighting efforts by local authorities. Visuals showed thick plumes of smoke rising from the trailer, which was engulfed in flames by the roadside. Fire and emergency teams rushed to the scene and brought the blaze under control. (ANI)
