Kheda (Gujarat) [India], April 26 (ANI): A significant milestone has been achieved for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train project with the successful launch of the first 100-meter span of a 2 X 100-meter long steel bridge over the busy NH-48 near Nadiad, Gujarat, the National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) announced on Friday.
“This ‘Make in India’ steel bridge, which comprises two 100-meter long steel spans, is planned to cross NH-48 for the Bullet Train corridor. One span has already been successfully launched,” a release from NHSRCL stated.
NH-48, one of the busiest highways in the region, consists of six lanes (three lanes on each side). The first span of the bridge was moved across the highway’s three lanes by sliding it for approximately 200 meters from one end. The operation was executed according to a carefully planned schedule, ensuring minimal disruption to traffic on the busy highway.
The steel bridge span, measuring around 14.6 meters in height and 14.3 meters in width, weighs approximately 1,414 metric tons. Fabricated at a workshop in Salasar, near Hapur, Uttar Pradesh, the steel bridges are designed to last for 100 years, according to the release.
The bridge is constructed using approximately 57,200 Tor-Shear Type High Strength (TTHS) bolts, C5 system painting, and elastomeric bearings. It was assembled on temporary trestles at a height of 14.9 meters above the ground and moved using an automatic mechanism with two semi-automatic jacks, each capable of lifting 250 tons, along with mac-alloy bars.
A total of 28 steel bridges are planned for the entire Bullet Train corridor, with 11 steel bridges in Maharashtra and 17 in Gujarat. Seven steel bridges have already been successfully launched in Gujarat over Railways/DFCC tracks, highways, and the Bhilosa Industry. (ANI)
