
Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala) [India], June 12 (ANI): A 38-year-old nurse, Ranjitha Gopakimar, from Thiruvalla in Kerala’s Pathanamthitta district, was among those who lost their lives in the crash of a London-bound Air India flight in Ahmedabad on Thursday, her family confirmed.
The ill-fated flight, carrying 242 people, including passengers and crew, crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport. The aircraft struck a doctors’ hostel, resulting in numerous casualties.
Kerala BJP chief and former Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar paid tribute to Ranjitha on social media, posting on X (formerly Twitter):
“Tributes to Ranjitha R. Nair from Kozhencherry, who lost her life in the Ahmedabad plane crash.”

Ranjitha, who had been working as a nurse in the United Kingdom, was on her way back to London. Her death was confirmed by family members. She is survived by her two children and her mother, who currently reside in Thiruvalla.
Meanwhile, Mahendra Vasandiya, a resident of Surat, told ANI that his younger brother and sister-in-law were also on board the flight. “My younger brother and his wife were on board and they were on their way to meet their daughter in London… I have no information yet,” he said.
Udaipur District Magistrate Namit Mehta confirmed that four residents of Rajasthan’s Udaipur district were among the passengers. “As per initial information, there were four passengers from Udaipur district on board the Air India flight that crashed in Ahmedabad. Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma has spoken to their family members. The administration stands with them, and all necessary help will be extended,” Mehta stated.
Rescue operations remain ongoing. The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has deployed approximately 150 personnel, including troops from the 100 Battalion of the Rapid Action Force (RAF) and staff from the CRPF’s Group Centre in Gandhinagar.
The Gujarat government has also mobilized three National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams from Gandhinagar, totaling 90 personnel, to support rescue efforts. (ANI)
