Riyadh, May 4 (ANI/WAM): Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Secretary-General Jassim Al Budaiwi has expressed serious concern over the escalating security situation in South Asia, particularly in light of a recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. He urged both India and Pakistan to exercise restraint and resume dialogue aimed at de-escalating tensions.
Condemning the attack that targeted tourists and claimed the lives of several civilians, Al Budaiwi underscored the GCC’s firm rejection of terrorism in all its forms. He emphasized that peaceful conflict resolution—grounded in international law and the UN Charter—is crucial to preserving peace and stability in the region.
“The GCC urges both parties to prioritise dialogue and return to the negotiating table urgently,” said Al Budaiwi. “It is imperative that all disputes be resolved through peaceful means to avoid further deterioration of regional stability.”
Reaffirming the GCC’s long-standing position, the Secretary-General called on the international community to bolster efforts toward a peaceful resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir issue in accordance with UN Security Council resolutions.
The statement comes amid heightened diplomatic strain following recent security incidents and reflects growing international anxiety about potential escalation in the region.
