
Guwahati (Assam) [India], August 20 (ANI): Guwahati police have arrested a nurse from Gauhati Medical College & Hospital (GMCH) following the death of a 4-day-old infant girl in the hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
Mrinal Deka, DCP (East) of Guwahati Police, stated, “A case (140/25) has been registered at Bhangagarh police station in connection with the death of an infant girl at GMCH. During the investigation, we have arrested one accused, Bhanupriya Misong, who was in charge of the room on that day.”
Earlier, on August 18, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited GMCH and ordered a probe into the incident. The Chief Minister described the event as “extremely disheartening” and directed the police to examine CCTV footage and launch a thorough investigation.
The Principal of GMCH has formed a three-member inquiry committee to probe the case, comprising Additional Chief Secretary L Sweety Changsan, Dr. Anup Barman, and a Child Specialist from AIIMS. Assam CM assured that strict action would be taken if any negligence is found. (ANI)
