California [US], July 14 (ANI): United States Vice President JD Vance on Sunday dismissed California Governor Gavin Newsom’s criticism of his family trip to Disneyland, responding with a curt, “Had a great time, thanks.”
Newsom’s remarks came after videos of Vance enjoying the Anaheim theme park with his wife and children went viral over the weekend, even as protests erupted nearby over the vice president’s hardline immigration stance.
According to the New York Post, social media users widely shared clips of Vance at Disneyland, prompting Newsom to post on X (formerly Twitter): “Hope you enjoy your family time, @JDVance. The families you’re tearing apart certainly won’t.”
The California governor’s jab referenced the Trump administration’s immigration policies and recent federal raids in California that have drawn protests and criticism from immigrant advocates.
Vance replied tersely on X, writing simply: “Had a great time, thanks.”
The Vance family’s Disneyland outing coincided with demonstrations in Anaheim, where roughly 150 protesters gathered outside the park to denounce immigration enforcement actions in the state. Newsom’s office also issued statements underscoring the vital role immigrants play in California’s economy — and noting that many Disneyland employees are immigrants.
As part of his California visit, Vance also participated in a literacy initiative at Camp Pendleton, where his wife, Usha, read to children of active-duty military personnel, according to the New York Post.
Newsom, viewed as a potential Democratic presidential contender in 2028, has routinely clashed with the Trump administration on immigration and social policy since its inauguration earlier this year. (ANI)
