New Delhi [India], July 28 (ANI): Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Monday raised questions over External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar’s recent statement in Parliament regarding Operation Sindoor, suggesting that his comments did not fully clarify the alleged involvement of the United States in the ceasefire between India and Pakistan.
Speaking to reporters, Priyanka Gandhi remarked, “There are certain things that he has not categorically said. He has made some statements, but not categorically said that the US was not involved in the ceasefire. He said that PM Modi did not speak to US President Trump for a certain period, but not categorically said that the US was not involved. That is interesting.”
Her comments come in response to Jaishankar’s firm denial of any third-party mediation during his address in the Lok Sabha. Jaishankar emphasized that Operation Sindoor marked a new phase in India’s stance against cross-border terrorism and that no discussions with the United States included any trade linkage with the ongoing hostilities.
The minister clarified that India never entertained any form of third-party intervention. “There are 193 nations in the United Nations, and only three, apart from Pakistan, opposed Operation Sindoor,” he noted. Jaishankar also stated that India effectively brought international attention to Pakistan’s long-standing role in fostering cross-border terrorism.
In rebutting the opposition’s allegations and US President Donald Trump’s repeated claims of mediation, Jaishankar pointed out that there had been no call between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Trump from April 22 to June 17.
He further revealed that on May 9, US Vice President JD Vance contacted Prime Minister Modi to warn of an imminent large-scale attack from Pakistan. “The Prime Minister, in his response, made it very clear that if such an attack happens, it would meet with an appropriate response from us,” Jaishankar said.
He added that the anticipated attack did occur and was thwarted by the Indian Armed Forces. “Our response, which the Prime Minister promised, was delivered with devastating effect. I don’t have to say anything further. Every member has seen satellite images of Pakistani airfields. One can see from their condition what our response was,” the Minister concluded.
Jaishankar’s statement drew strong support from ruling party members, while the opposition continued to question the transparency surrounding the diplomatic exchanges leading up to the ceasefire.
