Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) [India], June 7 (ANI) – Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Saturday inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for development projects worth ₹75.10 crore in the Gagret Assembly Constituency. During his visit, he launched a sharp critique against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), blaming the previous regime for pushing the state into financial distress due to mismanagement and excessive borrowing, according to an official release.
While addressing a public gathering at Daulatpur Chowk in Una district, CM Sukhu announced several infrastructure and welfare initiatives, including a 400-meter span bridge on the Swan River, water supply schemes, and healthcare improvements. He emphasized the state’s commitment to economic recovery through bold reforms, stating that his government is focused on achieving self-reliance despite ongoing financial challenges.
Sukhu criticized the BJP for its “double engine Sarkar” rhetoric, arguing that the party failed to deliver meaningful development and instead left the state burdened with loans from the Centre. “To make Himachal Pradesh self-reliant, we are prepared to take some harsh decisions in the interest of improving the state’s economy, with the cooperation of its people,” Sukhu said.
Among the highlighted projects were the ₹15 crore Daulatpur–Bhadrakali road, a new building for Gagret Hospital, and the upcoming Hoshiarpur–Nadaun four-lane road. He also assured the public of the government’s commitment to filling vacant doctor positions and addressing water scarcity in the region through the development of tube wells.
The Chief Minister further discussed the Bulk Drug Park in Haroli, noting that construction would commence soon. He criticized the BJP’s education policies, saying they led to a decline in Himachal Pradesh’s education ranking to 21st in the country, prompting the need for school mergers to ensure quality education.
The development initiatives unveiled include a ₹42.82 crore bridge on the Amb–Ambota road, four additional bridges under PMGSY-III worth ₹2.70 crore, and infrastructure projects such as the ₹2.79 crore Government Degree College Daulatpur Chowk building and ₹16.57 crore in water supply schemes for multiple villages.
Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri also addressed the gathering, noting a ₹170 crore investment in water schemes for the Gagret region. He criticized the central government for releasing only ₹137 crore out of the expected ₹2,000 crore and reaffirmed the state’s determination to fight for its rightful share of funds.
CM Sukhu further stated that Una has emerged as the fastest-growing district in the state and is being developed as Himachal’s “Solar Hub,” with 163 MW solar projects under construction. These projects are expected to boost job creation and industrial development in the region. (ANI)
