Tel Aviv [Israel], October 12 (ANI/TPS): Thousands of people filled “Hostages Square” in Tel Aviv on Sunday evening, coming together for a heartfelt gathering. Participants expressed hope that it would be the last rally of its kind, anticipating the return of hostages as outlined in the agreement to end the war in Gaza, despite remaining gaps in subsequent negotiation stages.
Nurit, in her 70s, who lived through the Six-Day War and became an adolescent during the Yom Kippur War, shared her personal connection to the square. She recalled attending cultural events at the Museum and the Opera House in the past and expressed that the memories of the locals seemed “kidnapped along with the hostages.” She explained that her weekly presence, along with her family, was not for themselves but for those still captive and their relatives. “Our absence could intensify their feeling of abandonment,” she said, adding that even small acts of solidarity gave courage to those affected.
Dalit, a woman in her fifties, noted the tension of living in a challenging neighbourhood. “Over these two difficult years, I was there to support the relatives of the hostages. If a member of my family were in trouble, I would have felt the same way,” she said, acknowledging both hope and fear about the unfolding situation.
Among the younger attendees, emotions varied. Shua expressed confidence: “It has to work. We must make it work!” Meanwhile, Tomrin admitted uncertainty, balancing cautious hope with realism. Ofek recounted losing faith over the past year but shared renewed optimism after hearing news of a deal. “I couldn’t believe it two days ago when I heard that there was a deal. But now I really hope that this will work out,” he said.
The gathering highlighted the resilience and solidarity of Tel Aviv residents, as citizens from all walks of life came together to support the hostages and their families. (ANI/TPS)
