Hyderabad (Telangana), May 1 (ANI): Hyderabad Police arrested three individuals for allegedly operating an online Indian Premier League (IPL) betting racket in the Himayath Nagar area. The arrests were made following a joint operation by the Commissioner’s Task Force, Central Zone Team, and officers from Domalguda Police Station.
The accused have been identified as Sriraj Boob (42), a resident of Himayath Nagar; Hondmane Sainath (32); and Regalla Gopynath (29), both hailing from the Chikkadpally area. Police recovered Rs 1,20,000 in cash and three mobile phones reportedly used in the betting operation.
According to investigators, Sriraj Boob is a repeat offender who habitually organized illegal cricket betting to make quick money. To facilitate the operation, he employed Sainath and Gopynath, offering them a 5 percent commission on the wagers they helped secure. The group had established a betting base at Pawani Lingaiah Apartments.
Police stated that during ongoing IPL matches, Boob obtained access to an international betting platform from a foreign agent. He then distributed login credentials to local punters, allowing them to place real-time bets with ball-by-ball updates and betting odds. The platform enabled seamless collection and forwarding of betting amounts to a central bookie, with Boob and his associates acting as intermediaries.
Authorities confirmed that on April 3, the trio was actively taking wagers—both in person and digitally—for an IPL match. Investigations are ongoing to trace the main bookie and determine the full extent of the betting network.
