
Tel Aviv [Israel], April 3 (ANI): The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) launched airstrikes on Wednesday, targeting Syrian military bases in Hama, the T4 airbase, and multiple military infrastructure sites in Damascus.
Israeli Statement on the Strikes
The IDF confirmed the attacks in a post on X, stating:
“The IDF struck military capabilities that remained at the Syrian bases of Hama and T4, along with additional remaining military infrastructure sites in the area of Damascus in the past few hours. We will continue to operate to remove any threat to Israeli civilians.”
Syrian Response & Damage Report
According to Syrian state media (SANA) and Al Jazeera, the airstrikes targeted:
- The scientific research center in Barzeh, Damascus.
- Hama Airport, a critical military facility.
Context: Israel’s Recent Military Campaign in Syria
- Since the removal of former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in December 2024, Israel has ramped up airstrikes in Syria.
- The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported that between December 8 and December 31, 2024, Israel conducted over 500 airstrikes in Syria.
- In 2025 alone, at least 43 Israeli attacks have been reported inside Syria.
Syria’s New Transitional Government
- Following al-Assad’s ousting on December 8, 2024, interim President Ahmed al-Sharaa announced a transitional government to stabilize the country.
- The government, revealed on March 30, includes:
- Yarub Badr (Alawite) as Transport Minister.
- Amgad Badr (Druze) as Agriculture Minister.
- Elections are expected within five years, according to al-Sharaa.
