Moscow, Russia, December 28 (ANI): Russian President Vladimir Putin on Saturday said that if Ukraine refuses to resolve the conflict peacefully, Russia will achieve all the objectives of its special military operation through military means, according to Russian news agency TASS.
Putin made the remarks during a visit to a command post of the Russian Armed Forces, where he met Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov and commanders of various battle groups, RT reported.
According to TASS, Putin said the establishment of a buffer zone along the Russian-Ukrainian border was progressing well, and that Russian forces were advancing in the Donbass and the Zaporozhye region along the entire line of engagement.
He was briefed on the liberation of Gulyaipole in the Zaporozhye region and Dimitrov in the Donetsk People’s Republic, TASS reported.
TASS further reported that remarks by the Russian president and the chief of the general staff suggested that the leadership in Kyiv was in “no hurry” to resolve the conflict through peaceful means.
Putin’s comments came as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reiterated that territories occupied by Russia during the four-year-long war and the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant are “red lines” for Ukraine.
Zelenskyy emphasized that any decisions involving sensitive issues would require consultations with the Ukrainian people through a referendum or legislative changes, ahead of his meeting with US President Donald Trump in Florida on Sunday.
In a series of posts on X while traveling to the United States, Zelenskyy said Ukraine aims to minimize unresolved issues in any future settlement, but stressed that matters related to territory, the Zaporizhzhia nuclear facility, and national sovereignty remain highly sensitive.
He added that strong security guarantees would be Ukraine’s top priority in any peace process.
