New Delhi [India], May 29 (ANI): Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Limited (IFFCO) announced a profit before tax of Rs 3,811 crores for the financial year 2024-25, alongside a remarkable 47 percent increase in the sales of nano-fertilisers, according to the company’s release on Thursday. During FY 2024-25, IFFCO sold 365.09 lakh bottles of nano-fertilisers, up from 248.95 lakh bottles in the previous year (2023-24). The company recorded a turnover of Rs 41,244 crores in the same period.
IFFCO Chairman Dileep Sanghani expressed pride in the cooperative sector’s achievement, stating that the company has posted profits exceeding Rs 3,000 crores for three consecutive years. He highlighted that for 23 straight years, IFFCO has rewarded its members with a consistent 20 percent dividend on paid-up share capital, underscoring its commitment to equitable and sustainable growth.
Nano-fertilisers have been a focal point for IFFCO, supported by the Union Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilisers. Extensive awareness campaigns and research efforts have driven wider adoption among farmers. Of the total nano-fertiliser sales, 268 lakh bottles were IFFCO Nano Urea Plus (Liquid) and 97 lakh bottles were IFFCO Nano DAP (Liquid). Sales of Nano Urea Plus grew by 31 percent, while Nano DAP sales soared by 118 percent compared to FY 2023-24. These sales volumes are equivalent to 12 lakh metric tonnes of conventional urea and 4.85 lakh metric tonnes of conventional DAP.
IFFCO’s Water Soluble Fertilisers (WSF), speciality fertilisers, and Sagarika Granule Fertiliser recorded sales of 1.92 lakh MT, with WSF and speciality fertilisers increasing by 2 percent to 1.30 lakh MT. Sagarika Liquid sales rose 33 percent to 11.55 lakh litres, Sagarika Granule by 28 percent to 68,000 MT, and bio-fertilisers surged 35 percent to 8.61 lakh litres.
IFFCO Managing Director Dr. US Awasthi announced plans to launch Nano NPK fertiliser in granular form for soil application as a basal dose. Enriched with magnesium, sulphur, zinc, and copper, the new fertiliser aims to boost crop productivity and minimize nutrient loss, complementing existing liquid nano fertilisers and reducing reliance on traditional chemical fertilisers. Further launches will include Nano Zinc and Nano Copper in 100 ml liquid bottles to meet micronutrient needs. IFFCO is leveraging nanotechnology, drone technology, and AI to transform India’s agriculture and food value chains.
Globally, IFFCO’s nano-fertiliser technology has attracted interest from countries like Brazil, Kenya, and the United States. The cooperative has expanded its presence to over 40 countries, with significant adoption and performance improvements reported in the USA, Brazil, Slovenia, Mauritius, Zambia, Nepal, and Bangladesh.
In line with preserving indigenous ‘Desi’ seeds, IFFCO has initiated a Seed Innovation Centre at its Kalol unit. The company also honoured two eminent cooperators with the ‘IFFCO Sahakarita Ratna Award’ and ‘IFFCO Sahakarita Bandhu Award’ for 2023-24, recognizing their grassroots efforts to strengthen cooperative movements in Gujarat and Haryana.
From July 2024, IFFCO launched the nationwide “Model Nano Village/Clusters Project,” selecting 203 village clusters across 5 lakh acres as pioneers for nano fertiliser adoption. Over 90,000 farmers registered on the Nano Village Portal, with 40,000 purchasing more than 5.3 lakh bottles of IFFCO nano fertilisers and 72,000 acres treated with agricultural drones. This initiative led to a 28.73 percent reduction in chemical fertiliser use and a 5.8 percent increase in crop yields. IFFCO is exploring opportunities to certify these reductions under the Carbon Credit Project.
Under the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilisers’ Mega Campaign, IFFCO conducted 1,470 two-plot trials of Nano Urea Plus and Nano DAP across 15 agro-climatic zones, achieving average yield improvements of 5.27 and 5.28 percent respectively. The company distributed over 2.5 lakh sprayers and introduced the “IFFCO Kisan Drone” to assist farmers in spraying nano fertilisers. Additionally, IFFCO procured 1,764 drones and electric three-wheelers, training rural entrepreneurs to provide drone spraying services.
IFFCO is ranked the world’s No. 1 cooperative by contribution to GDP, as per the World Cooperative Monitor report published by EURICSE and the International Cooperative Alliance. The cooperative’s extensive network includes over 35,600 member societies, 500+ field offices across 21 states, serving more than 5 crore farmers nationwide. Globally, IFFCO maintains a presence in four countries and operates 10 manufacturing units.
IFFCO’s MD Udai Shanker Awasthi was honoured with the ‘Rochdale Pioneers Award’ in 2024 during the ICA conference and titled ‘Fertiliser Man of India’ for his outstanding contributions to agriculture and fertiliser sectors.
