New Delhi, April 17: In a significant move against illegal immigration, the South Campus Police Station team in Delhi detained eight Bangladeshi nationals found living unlawfully in various parts of the city. The crackdown, which took place on April 15, followed a tip-off about the presence of illegal migrants near Satya Niketan Market.
Upon detention, the deportation process for all eight individuals was immediately initiated with the help of the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) in Delhi. They were transferred to the designated deportation center on April 16.
The investigation revealed that most of the detainees had illegally entered India between 2007 and 2023 through various borders, including those at Tripura, Ghoja Donga, and Benapole. Some had reportedly used brokers to help them cross the border. Several of the detained individuals were working in Delhi as domestic helpers or had enrolled in vocational training programs.
In a separate incident, Delhi Police had earlier detained another Bangladeshi national named Ambrose, who was residing illegally in the capital. Ambrose, a resident of Nilphamari in Bangladesh, was apprehended in the RK Puram area after police received a tip-off. He was unable to produce valid Indian documents and admitted to entering India illegally three years ago. Ambrose was subsequently sent to the Deportation Centre after legal formalities were completed.
Surendra Chaudhary, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) for South West District, stated that the Special Staff of the district has been directed to enhance intelligence gathering and take strict action against illegal migrants in a bid to prevent and detect crimes. Police are closely monitoring areas vulnerable to illegal immigration.
