New Delhi [India], April 25 (ANI): Reaffirming its enduring commitment to regional cooperation and humanitarian support, India on Friday dispatched medical aid worth USD 2 million to Nepal as part of its Neighbourhood First Policy.
The aid package includes essential medicines and vaccines specifically aimed at supporting patients suffering from Thalassemia and Sickle Cell Disease. The initial tranche of assistance comprises 17,030 vials of vaccines intended for the immunization of Thalassemia patients.
Sharing the announcement via social media platform X, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal wrote, “Reaffirming India’s commitment to Neighbourhood First Policy. India sends assistance consisting of medicines and vaccines for patients with Thalassemia and Sickle Cell Disease worth $2 million, responding to a request from Nepal.” He further noted that the first consignment, containing 17,030 vials, had been officially handed over to Nepal.
India’s Neighbourhood First Policy serves as a guiding principle in its diplomatic engagements with neighboring countries, emphasizing mutually beneficial, people-centered regional frameworks. This policy seeks to foster stability and prosperity through enhanced physical, digital, and interpersonal connectivity across the South Asian region.
Under this approach, India adopts a consultative, non-reciprocal, and results-oriented engagement strategy grounded in the values of Samman (respect), Samvad (dialogue), Shanti (peace), and Samriddhi (prosperity). These foundational principles guide India’s initiatives aimed at supporting the development goals and aspirations of neighboring nations.
As part of its broader regional strategy, the Indian government has been extending comprehensive developmental assistance and capacity-building support. These efforts span a wide spectrum, from large-scale infrastructure development to the provisioning of community-level assets, institutional strengthening, and financial and humanitarian aid.
India’s contributions under the Neighbourhood First Policy have consistently been acknowledged and valued by diverse stakeholders across the region. These initiatives have earned goodwill and have fostered durable partnerships that continue to thrive, even amidst changes in governmental leadership in partner nations.
Meanwhile, the Government of India remains vigilant regarding developments that could impact national security and continues to implement all necessary measures to safeguard its strategic interests. (ANI)
