New Delhi, May 4 (ANI): India has suspended the X (formerly Twitter) accounts of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and former Prime Minister Imran Khan, amid growing tensions between the two nations following a deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir.
The move comes in response to a series of controversial remarks by Bhutto and a broader pattern of incendiary rhetoric emanating from Pakistani leadership in recent days. Notably, Bhutto admitted to Pakistan’s troubling legacy with terrorism, acknowledging in an interview with Sky News that the country has historically engaged with extremist groups.
“As far as what the defence minister said, I don’t think it is a secret that Pakistan has a past… we have gone through wave after wave of extremism,” Bhutto stated. He emphasized that Pakistan has since reformed, learning hard lessons from its own experiences with terror.
His comments followed a candid admission from Defence Minister Khwaja Asif, who openly acknowledged Pakistan’s role in backing and funding terrorist groups in the past.
During a recent rally in Mirpur Khas, Bhutto reiterated Pakistan’s desire for peace but issued a stark warning, saying, “We do not want war, but if someone attacks our Sindhu, then they should be ready for war.” He had also previously made the inflammatory statement, “either water or blood will flow,” in response to India’s suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty—a remark that sparked outrage.
The suspension of Bhutto and Khan’s X accounts signals India’s growing intolerance for what it views as incitement and glorification of extremist narratives, particularly in light of ongoing investigations into cross-border terror networks operating in the Kashmir Valley.
