Speaking at the Trust and Safety India Festival 2025, a pre-summit event leading up to the AI Impact Summit 2026, Jaishankar highlighted that the discussions initiated at the festival would shape India’s and the world’s approach to AI governance.
“India bears a special responsibility because many other nations, especially those of the Global South, look to us for inspiration—and certainly in the case of digital public infrastructure,” Jaishankar stated.
Reflecting on India’s achievements over the past decade, he underscored how the nation’s scale of service delivery, improvements in governance, and enhanced public efficiencies have garnered global attention. “As a Foreign Minister, when I go abroad, this is often the topic of conversation. I can see this being extrapolated into the world of AI as well,” he added.
Jaishankar stressed the importance of developing responsible and indigenous AI frameworks, including self-assessment protocols for innovators and relevant regulatory guidelines. “Only then can we be assured that the development, deployment, use, and governance of AI are safe and accessible,” he said.
Observing that the world stands on the brink of profound transformation, Jaishankar noted that decisions made today—both individually and collectively—will shape the future. He predicted that in the coming years, AI would “transform our economies, change work habits, create new health solutions, enhance educational access, and improve efficiencies,” fundamentally reshaping lifestyles.
Highlighting the pervasive nature of AI, he remarked, “This transformation will not be sectoral but all-encompassing—it will impact every citizen in every corner of the world. New efficiencies and new possibilities will emerge, but so too will new players and power centers.”
He concluded by calling for a balanced approach to AI governance that protects digital citizens. Citing Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Jaishankar reiterated, “Technology is a force for good, but only if humanity guides it.” (ANI)
