Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said India has kept the situation “under control” despite global disruptions triggered by the ongoing West Asia conflict, attributing this stability to the country’s effective foreign policy and the “unwavering unity” of its citizens. Addressing a public gathering at Vav-Tharad in Gujarat after inaugurating multiple development projects, the Prime Minister noted that the conflict has driven up global energy concerns, including diesel, petrol, and gas prices, but asserted that India has managed the impact effectively.
At the same event, Modi accused the Congress party of engaging in “divisive activities” by spreading fear and inciting the public at a time when unity is crucial. He alleged that the opposition was hoping for the West Asia crisis to escalate in order to gain political advantage. Following his address, the Prime Minister held a roadshow in Vav-Tharad, drawing large public support.
Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, speaking at a rally in Kozhikode, warned that the escalating conflict could trigger a “financial earthquake” in India, with rising fuel prices and inflation. He questioned both the Centre and the Kerala government over their preparedness to handle the potential economic fallout, criticizing the government’s ability to shield citizens from the crisis.
The West Asia situation intensified after a joint US-Israel strike on Iranian territory on February 28 reportedly killed Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and other senior figures, prompting retaliation from Tehran. Reports indicate that the United States is preparing for the possibility of extended ground operations in Iran, while also increasing troop deployment in the region, even as diplomatic efforts continue behind the scenes.
Highlighting domestic development, Modi reiterated that the BJP-led government would continue its “Superfast Express of development,” backed by public trust from grassroots to Parliament. He praised Gujarat’s ₹4.08 lakh crore budget and said it would drive growth across villages, towns, and cities.
The Prime Minister inaugurated and laid the foundation for projects worth over ₹20,000 crore across sectors such as power, railways, road transport, health, urban development, and rural and tribal welfare. Among the key projects, he inaugurated the Ahmedabad-Dholera Expressway built at a cost of over ₹5,100 crore and launched several road infrastructure initiatives aimed at improving connectivity and easing congestion.
Modi also highlighted Gujarat’s leadership in solar energy, noting that the state’s early investments in renewable energy have placed it at the forefront of India’s green transition. He further inaugurated multiple urban development and healthcare projects, including large-scale facilities in Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar.
