New Delhi [India], November 4 (ANI): In a significant boost to India’s indigenous defence industry, India and Indonesia are moving closer to finalizing a deal for the BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles, defence sources told ANI.
According to the sources, almost all procedural formalities in the negotiations have been completed, and the agreement now awaits approval from the Russian side before the contract can be signed.
India and Indonesia have been in discussions regarding the BrahMos deal for an extended period. The matter was deliberated in detail during a high-level visit in January this year when top Indonesian political and military leaders were in New Delhi.
India has already supplied BrahMos missiles to the Philippines and is now working to expand the market for the indigenous missile system, which demonstrated its effectiveness during the India-Pakistan conflict earlier this year in May.
Recently, senior Indian military officials, including Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, visited Indonesia, underscoring the growing defence partnership between the two nations. The visit followed the State visit of Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto to India in January, which further strengthened bilateral military cooperation.
India had previously signed a deal worth around Rs 3,500 crore with the Philippines for the BrahMos system and has successfully delivered the missiles along with the required operational infrastructure.
The Philippines’ acquisition of BrahMos missiles was closely watched by international observers, as it marked a strategic move to bolster its defence capabilities and safeguard its regional interests. (ANI)
