New Delhi [India], May 8 (ANI): The Indian Armed Forces have successfully neutralised Pakistan’s attempts to launch a large-scale drone and missile attack on multiple Indian military installations across Northern and Western India during the night of May 7-8. An Air Defence system in Lahore has also been neutralised, according to Colonel Sofiya Qureshi.
Addressing a press briefing at the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Thursday, Colonel Qureshi stated that India’s Integrated Counter-UAS Grid and Air Defence systems successfully intercepted and neutralised the threats. She further revealed that, in response to Pakistan’s attempted attacks, the Indian Armed Forces targeted multiple air defence radars and systems across Pakistan.
“This morning, the Indian Armed Forces targeted Air Defence Radars and systems at a number of locations in Pakistan. The Indian response has been in the same domain with the same intensity as Pakistan. It has been reliably learned that an Air Defence system at Lahore has been neutralised,” Colonel Qureshi stated.
Reflecting on the press briefing on ‘Operation Sindoor’ from May 7, Colonel Qureshi reiterated that India’s response was focused, measured, and non-escalatory. She emphasized that Pakistani military establishments had not been targeted and warned that any attack on military targets in India would prompt a suitable response.
On the night of May 7-8, Pakistan attempted to strike multiple Indian military targets, including locations in Awantipura, Srinagar, Jammu, Pathankot, Amritsar, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Adampur, Bhatinda, Chandigarh, Nal, Phalodi, Uttarlai, and Bhuj, using drones and missiles. These threats were neutralised by India’s Integrated Counter-UAS Grid and Air Defence systems. Debris recovered from various locations provides evidence of the Pakistani attacks.
Following the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed 26 lives, India launched ‘Operation Sindoor’ on Wednesday, executing precision strikes on nine terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK).
Colonel Qureshi reaffirmed that India’s actions have remained focused, measured, and non-escalatory, with no Pakistani military facilities being targeted. The Ministry of Defence stressed that India has exercised considerable restraint in selecting targets and methods of execution.
In light of Operation Sindoor, the Indian government convened an all-party meeting on Thursday to brief political leaders on the situation. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh addressed the gathering, which was attended by Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP President JP Nadda, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, and Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, among others. The meeting was held at the Parliament Annexe building.
