
Dhaka [Bangladesh], July 22 (ANI): India has extended an offer of medical assistance to victims of the tragic Bangladesh Air Force fighter jet crash in Dhaka’s Diabari area, as the death toll from the incident climbed to 27, officials confirmed Tuesday.
In a statement, the Indian High Commission in Dhaka said, “As follow-up to the message from the Prime Minister of India, expressing condolences on the tragic Milestone School plane crash and offering all possible support and assistance, the Indian High Commission has today formally written to the Government of Bangladesh asking for information on any critical medical support that may need to be arranged in India for those injured in the tragic incident.”
The mission added, “The Indian High Commission will extend all necessary facilitation.”
The crash occurred Monday afternoon when a Bangladesh Air Force F-7 fighter jet, piloted by Flight Lieutenant Mohammad Towkir Islam Sagar, went down during a training mission, crashing into the Milestone School and College campus. The pilot was among those killed, Bangladesh daily The Daily Star reported.
Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) clarified in a statement that the aircraft was “battle-ready” and on a training sortie when the accident occurred. Saidur Rahman, special assistant to the Chief Adviser, confirmed Tuesday morning that the official death toll had risen to 27.
Bangladesh is observing a day of national mourning in memory of the victims.
Chief Adviser of the interim government, Muhammad Yunus, expressed his condolences, describing the accident as an “irreparable” loss to the Bangladesh Air Force and the Milestone School community.
“I express my deep grief and sorrow over the tragic incident of casualties caused by the crash of a Bangladesh Air Force F-7 BJI training aircraft at the Milestone School and College campus in the Diabari area of the capital today,” Yunus wrote on X. “The loss suffered by the Air Force, the students, parents, teachers, and staff of Milestone School and College, as well as others affected by this accident, is irreparable. This is a moment of profound pain for the nation.”
The Chief Adviser also prayed for the recovery of the injured and instructed authorities to prioritize their treatment. “I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured and direct all concerned authorities, including hospitals, to address the situation with the utmost priority. The government will take necessary measures to investigate the cause of the accident and ensure all forms of assistance,” he added.
