New Delhi [India], May 12 (ANI): The Director General of Military Operations (DGMO)-level talks between India and Pakistan are now set to take place on Monday evening, according to sources. Initially, the discussions were planned for noon but have been rescheduled following an earlier conversation on Saturday between the two DGMOs.
Lieutenant General Rajiv Ghai, India’s DGMO, spoke to the media at a joint press conference on Sunday, confirming that during the conversation with his Pakistani counterpart on Saturday, the proposal to “cease hostilities” was made. “I had a communication with the Pakistan DGMO at 15:35 hrs yesterday, which resulted in the cessation of cross-border firing and air intrusions by both sides, effective from 17:00 hrs on May 10,” Lt Gen Ghai stated. “We had also planned to speak further on May 12 at 12:00 hrs to discuss the modalities ensuring the longevity of this understanding.”
However, Lt Gen Ghai expressed disappointment over Pakistan’s violation of the ceasefire agreement just hours after the agreement was made. “Sadly, and as expected, within a couple of hours, the Pakistan Army violated the arrangements with cross-border and Line of Control (LoC) firing, followed by drone intrusions last night and into the early hours of today. These violations were met with a robust response from our side,” he added.
The Indian DGMO also confirmed that Pakistan had been notified of the violations via a hotline message, and India had made it clear that any repeated violations would be met with a “fierce” response. The Chief of Army Staff has granted full authority to the Army Commanders to act accordingly.
The press conference also featured remarks from Air Marshal AK Bharti and Vice Admiral AN Pramod. The talks come in the wake of Operation Sindoor, launched on May 7, which targeted nine terror sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir in retaliation for a deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, that killed 26 people last month.
