
Amman, April 30 (ANI): India topped the Asian U-15 Boxing Championships medal tally with a remarkable 25 medals, including 11 golds, driven by a dominant performance in the girls’ category. The young Indian women secured 10 golds and 4 bronze medals across 15 weight categories, winning every title bout they contested in the finals.
The girls’ U-15 bouts began with Komal (30-33 kg) narrowly defeating Kazakhstan’s Aiaru Onggarbek with a 3:2 split decision. Following her, Khushi Ahlawat (35 kg) triumphed with a 4:1 victory, while Tamanna (37 kg) sealed her win with a second-round RSC (Referee Stopped Contest). Other Indian champions included Svi (40 kg), Milky Meinam (43 kg), Princi (52 kg), Navya (58 kg), Sunaina (61 kg), Trushana Mohite (67 kg), and Vanshika (70+ kg), who all won their finals unanimously.
In his remarks, Ajay Singh, President-Chairman of the Boxing Federation of India (BFI), expressed pride in India’s success, stating, “What an incredible evening for Indian boxing. Hearing the national anthem play eleven times and seeing India top the charts filled us all with pride. These young boxers are our future Olympic champions.”
Apart from the outstanding girls’ performances, four Indian boys contested the finals. Sanskar Vinod (35 kg) won a gold by defeating Sarmat Shokarimov (UZB) with a 5:0 win. Rudraksh Singh Khaidem (46 kg), Abhijeet (61 kg), and Lakshay Phogat (64 kg) all won silver medals, contributing to India’s overall medal tally.
In total, India secured 43 medals, including 25 in the U-15 category and 18 in the U-17 category, with the U-17 finals to be contested the following day.
