
New Delhi [India], June 12 (ANI): Union Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President JP Nadda on Thursday lauded India’s remarkable progress in the digital sphere over the past 11 years, stating that the country has undergone an “unprecedented digital revolution” under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He emphasized that this transformation has bridged the digital divide and made technology accessible to every citizen.
In a post on X, Nadda wrote, “Over the past 11 years, India has witnessed an unprecedented digital revolution under the visionary leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji. This transformation has not only connected millions but also bridged the digital divide, ensuring that technology reaches every citizen.”
He added that governance in India has become more transparent and efficient, with major government schemes integrated into real-time digital dashboards, enabling direct benefits to reach citizens more effectively. “Today, governance is more transparent and efficient than ever before,” Nadda said.
Highlighting flagship digital initiatives, Nadda pointed to platforms such as UPI, DigiLocker, Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission, U-WIN, CoWIN, and e-Sanjeevani. He stated that these innovations are more than just technological tools—they have transformed lives by empowering millions of people. “Let’s celebrate this Digital India journey as it paves the way towards a Viksit Bharat @2047,” he said.
Earlier the same day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also praised India’s digital and technological advancements, calling the progress “remarkable” and noting its contribution to India’s goal of becoming self-reliant in the tech sector. Sharing a post by MyGovIndia on X, Modi said, “Powered by the youth of India, we are making remarkable progress in the innovation and application of technology. It is also strengthening our efforts to become self-reliant and a global tech powerhouse.”
India has seen explosive growth in digital payments, particularly through UPI (Unified Payments Interface). The volume of UPI transactions increased dramatically from 0.93 crore in April 2017 to 1867.70 crore in April 2025—an over 2500-fold surge. The country processed more than ₹260 lakh crore worth of transactions, with ₹18,600 crore worth of transactions occurring annually.
India’s UPI system has also gained global acceptance and is now live in seven countries: the UAE, Singapore, Nepal, France, Mauritius, Bhutan, and Sri Lanka.
In addition, India offers the world’s cheapest mobile data and has more than 94 crore broadband connections and 120 crore telephone subscribers. The government has connected 2.18 lakh gram panchayats through optical fibre under the BharatNet initiative, laying 6.92 lakh kilometers of fibre cable across the nation.
The Centre is also investing in Artificial Intelligence, with plans to establish three AI Centres of Excellence at top educational institutions. India is developing indigenous AI models such as BharatGen, Sarvam-1, Chitralekha, and Hanooman’s Everest 1.0.
On June 10, Prime Minister Modi shared an article reaffirming the government’s commitment to enhancing digital connectivity and furthering India’s position as a leading global tech power.
