New Delhi [India], May 12 (ANI): Senior commanders from the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force confirmed the destruction of 11 Pakistani air bases in a precision strike during Operation Sindoor. The operation, launched in response to the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, targeted terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK).
Operation Sindoor: A Coordinated Strike
Lieutenant General Rajeev Ghai (DGMO), Vice Admiral A N Pramod (DG Naval Operations), and Air Marshal A K Bharti (DG Air Operations) announced the operation’s outcomes during a joint press conference at the National Media Centre. They revealed that the strikes eliminated over 100 terrorists, including high-value targets involved in the IC-814 hijacking and the 2019 Pulwama attack. The strikes were carefully executed to minimize civilian casualties, focusing on strategic military installations.
Air Marshal Bharti stressed that the IAF has the capability to strike any Pakistani military system but maintained a measured response aimed at instilling caution. The operation was a calibrated military action, focusing on military targets while avoiding civilian areas.
Countering Pakistani Drone Attacks
Air Marshal Bharti reported that Pakistan launched a massive drone attack on Indian cities, including Srinagar and Naliya, on the night of May 8-9. Indian air defense successfully neutralized these threats without any damage. The drones, identified as Turkish-origin Asisguard Songar drones, were aimed at 36 locations, including military bases and religious sites.
In response, Indian forces launched precision strikes on Pakistani air defense sites, including radar installations in Lahore and Gujranwala. Pakistan complicated the situation by allowing civilian flights from Lahore during the attacks, forcing Indian forces to exercise caution.
A Decisive Operation Against Terrorism
DGMO Ghai emphasized that Operation Sindoor was aimed at punishing the perpetrators of the Pahalgam attack and dismantling terror infrastructure. The operation targeted nine terrorist hubs, including sites linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). Key terrorists killed included Yusuf Azhar, Abdul Malik Rauf, and Mudasir Ahmed, all involved in the IC-814 hijacking and the Pulwama attack.
Strategic Impact
The operation demonstrated India’s resolve to counter terrorism decisively. By targeting key military and terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan, the Indian Armed Forces sent a clear message that hostile actions will not be tolerated. The precision strikes also showcased India’s military capabilities in neutralizing threats with minimal collateral damage.
Air Marshal Bharti clarified that the mission’s focus was on striking targets accurately rather than counting casualties, reinforcing the objective of deterring future provocations. The operation reflects India’s commitment to national security and its zero-tolerance policy towards terrorism. (ANI)
