April 25, 2025, Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir) [India]: Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi visited Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, to review the security situation amidst escalating tensions between India and Pakistan following the Pahalgam terror attack. This marks his first visit to the region since the attack.
Upon arrival, General Dwivedi was briefed by the 15 Corps Commander on the ongoing security dynamics in the Kashmir Valley. He met with senior Army commanders and officials from other security agencies, discussing the current threat landscape, including terrorist activities within Indian territory and the Pakistan Army’s repeated ceasefire violations along the Line of Control (LoC).
Earlier today, Pakistan Army troops opened fire at several locations along the LoC, prompting an immediate retaliation from the Indian Army. Indian officials reported no casualties from the exchange of fire, describing it as small arms firing that was effectively responded to by Indian forces.
The visit comes in the wake of the deadly terrorist attack on April 22, 2025, at Baisaran meadow in Pahalgam, which claimed the lives of 25 Indian nationals and one Nepali citizen, leaving several others injured. In response to this attack, the Indian Army has been on high alert, conducting several search operations aimed at neutralizing terrorist elements in the region.
Following the Pahalgam attack, the Indian government has implemented significant diplomatic measures, including the suspension of the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme for Pakistani nationals and the closure of the Integrated Check Post at Attari. Additionally, India has expelled Pakistani military officers stationed in India and reduced diplomatic staff at the Pakistani High Commission in New Delhi.
The attack has led to widespread national protests, with demands for more stringent action against Pakistan to address the increasing cross-border terrorism.
