Abbotsford (British Columbia) [Canada], October 29 (ANI): A 68-year-old Indian-origin businessman, Darshan Singh Sahsi, was killed in Abbotsford, Canada, on Monday morning (local time), the Vancouver Sun reported.
According to a news release from the Abbotsford Police Department, patrol officers discovered Sahsi suffering from life-threatening injuries. He was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to his wounds. “Despite life-saving medical efforts of first responders, the man succumbed to his injuries. No arrests have been made at this time. The investigation is still in its early stages, and additional resources have been deployed to support efforts in uncovering the full circumstances surrounding this incident,” Sergeant Paul Walker said, as quoted by the Vancouver Sun.
Police added that the shooting does not appear to be connected to recent extortion-related violence targeting members of the South Asian business community. Investigators believe the suspected shooter acted alone and fled the scene after opening fire. Authorities also released surveillance footage of a silver Toyota Corolla allegedly involved in the incident, according to the report.
Meanwhile, Canada-based gangster Goldy Dhillon, who is linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, claimed responsibility for Sahsi’s murder on Wednesday. In a Facebook post, Dhillon alleged that Sahsi was involved in a major drug trade and had ignored the gang’s demands for money.
Police agencies in both India and Canada are verifying the authenticity of the post and investigating possible links to the Bishnoi network operating overseas.
Punjabi journalist Gurpreet Singh Sahota described Sahsi as a “gentle person” and a respected businessman from Abbotsford. “He was a very gentle person. He was a millionaire, a multimillionaire, but never showed off, and he was very helpful to the community,” Sahota told the Vancouver Sun. (ANI)
