New Delhi [India], January 25 (ANI): President Droupadi Murmu on Sunday emphasised India’s growing military capabilities, citing the Indian Air Force’s combat readiness and the Indian Navy’s indigenously built aircraft carrier, INS Vikrant. She also highlighted India’s precision strikes against terror infrastructure through Operation Sindoor last year.
In her address to the nation on the eve of the 77th Republic Day, President Murmu said that during Operation Sindoor, terror centres were destroyed and many terrorists met their end. She noted that India’s self-reliance in the field of defence powered the historic success of the operation.
The President said that based on the strength of the Army, Air Force, and Navy, people have complete trust in the country’s defence preparedness. She mentioned her recent visit to the Siachen Base Camp, where she witnessed the bravery and preparedness of Indian soldiers in extremely challenging conditions.
President Murmu also highlighted her experience of flying in the Sukhoi and Rafale fighter planes, showcasing the combat readiness of the Indian Air Force. She said she witnessed the extraordinary capabilities of the Indian Navy’s indigenously built aircraft carrier, INS Vikrant, and also sortied in the submarine INS Vaghsheer.
“Last year, our country launched precision strikes against terror infrastructure through Operation Sindoor. Terror centres were destroyed, and many terrorists met their end. Our self-reliance in the field of defence powered the historic success of Operation Sindoor,” she said. “Based on the strength of the Army, Air Force, and Navy, people have complete trust in our defence preparedness.”
In her address, President Murmu emphasised the importance of National Voters’ Day, celebrated on January 25, and praised Indian citizens for enthusiastically exercising their right to vote. She recalled Babasaheb Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar’s belief that the exercise of voting leads to political education.
“Our voters, in line with Babasaheb’s vision, are demonstrating their political awareness. The increasing participation of women in voting adds a powerful dimension to our Republic,” she said.
President Murmu highlighted India’s young population as a major strength, noting their immense talent and entrepreneurial spirit. She referred to initiatives such as ‘Mera Yuva Bharat’ or ‘MY Bharat’, which provide a technology-driven experiential learning mechanism connecting young citizens with leadership and skill development opportunities.
She said that the impressive success of India’s start-ups is largely driven by young entrepreneurs. “Our youth are the flag bearers of our nation’s development journey. I am confident that the power of youth will play a leading role in the making of Viksit Bharat by 2047,” she added.
The President further stated that India is the world’s fastest-growing major economy and is moving towards becoming the third-largest economy in the near future. She emphasised the role of Atma-nirbharata and Swadeshi in shaping India’s economic destiny.
She highlighted the implementation of GST as the most important decision for economic integration after Independence, establishing the system of ‘One Nation, One Market’. Recent steps to strengthen the GST system, along with the issuance of four Labour Codes, will benefit workers and accelerate enterprise development, she said.
President Murmu also stressed the importance of environmental protection, citing India’s cultural tradition of living in harmony with nature. She referred to India’s global message of ‘Lifestyle for Environment’ or ‘LiFE’, which promotes sustainable development.
“In an atmosphere marked by conflicts in many parts of the world, India is spreading the message of world peace,” she said, adding that the future of humanity can remain secure only if peace prevails across the globe.
The address was broadcast at 7:00 pm on the national network of Akashvani and telecast on all Doordarshan channels in Hindi, followed by the English version. Regional-language versions were later broadcast on Doordarshan and Akashvani regional networks. (ANI)
