Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], January 5 (ANI): Reliance Foundation founder-chairperson Nita M Ambani on Monday hosted the second edition of United in Triumph in Mumbai, celebrating India’s three World Cup-winning cricket teams – men’s, women’s, and blind women’s – and expressing gratitude on behalf of the nation.
The event honoured the men’s T20 World Cup-winning team of 2024, led by Rohit Sharma, who defeated South Africa by seven runs in Barbados, bolstered by a fine half-century from Virat Kohli (76) and effective death-over bowling. The ICC Women’s World Cup-winning team, featuring all-round performances by Shafali Verma (87 and two wickets) and Deepti Sharma (58 and 5/39), claimed victory over South Africa by 52 runs at Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium. The blind women’s team celebrated their inaugural Women’s T20 World Cup for the Blind triumph, defeating Nepal by seven wickets in Sri Lanka last year, chasing a target of 115 runs.
Nita Ambani said, “All three cricket teams – the men’s, women’s, and blind women’s teams of India – are here under one roof, and on behalf of every Indian, we are going to honour them tonight for giving us so much joy and happiness.” She emphasised the unifying power of sport, adding, “Sport joins hearts in India. Today we are united in triumph. We are going to celebrate them and celebrate their victories.”
The evening highlighted India’s three World Cup-winning captains – Rohit Sharma, Harmanpreet Kaur, and Deepika TC – whose leadership and resilience inspired historic victories. Also in attendance were star players Jasprit Bumrah, Suryakumar Yadav, Smriti Mandhana, Jemimah Rodrigues, and Ganga Kadam, alongside cricketing legends Sachin Tendulkar, Sunil Gavaskar, and Ravichandran Ashwin. Olympic and Paralympic champions, including Murlikant Petkar, Deepa Malik, and Devendra Jhajaharia, as well as prominent figures from Indian cinema such as Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan, further enriched the celebration.
United in Triumph embodies Nita Ambani’s vision of sport as a catalyst for excellence, inclusion, and unity, celebrating both achievements and the values that define India’s sporting journey.
