
Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, April 21 (ANI): The Indian Naval Ships INS Chennai and INS Kesari successfully concluded the maiden edition of the AIKEYME exercise in Tanzania, sailing out of Dar es Salaam on April 19. The exercise was aimed at improving maritime security cooperation among African nations and involved multiple countries, including India and Tanzania.
The Indian Navy shared updates on social media, announcing the completion of the exercise and the departure of the ships. Rear Admiral AR Hassan, Navy Commander of the Tanzania People’s Defence Force (TPDF), and Commodore Agyapal Singh, Indian Defence Attaché, were present during the departure ceremony.
The AIKEYME-25 exercise, which means “Unity” in Sanskrit, was held over six days, featuring countries such as Comoros, Djibouti, Kenya, Madagascar, Mauritius, Mozambique, Seychelles, South Africa, India, and Tanzania. The event included both a harbour phase focused on joint training against piracy and information sharing, as well as a sea phase designed to enhance regional maritime security cooperation.
The closing ceremony of the exercise was held on April 18 at Kigamboni, Dar es Salaam, where Major General Gaguti, Chief of Personnel of the Tanzania People’s Defence Force, served as the Chief Guest. The event also featured cultural programs and speeches from dignitaries, followed by a comprehensive debrief of the exercise.
The initiative aims to strengthen ties between India and African nations while addressing regional maritime challenges through improved coordination and collaboration among participating navies.
