Bengaluru, April 10 (ANI): A fiery late cameo by Tim David rescued Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) from a mid-innings slump, helping them post a competitive 163/7 in their IPL 2025 clash against Delhi Capitals (DC) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
After winning the toss, DC captain Axar Patel chose to bowl first. RCB got off to a flying start as Phil Salt smashed 30 runs off Mitchell Starc’s third over, before being run out by Viraj Nigam for a brisk 37 off 17 balls.
However, momentum shifted quickly as Mukesh Kumar and Vipraj Nigam tightened the screws. Devdutt Padikkal fell cheaply for 1(8), while Virat Kohli was dismissed for 22(14) by Nigam, curbing RCB’s early charge. RCB were 64/2 at the end of the powerplay but lost regular wickets after that.
Captain Rajat Patidar played a brief counter-attacking knock of 25 runs before perishing to Kuldeep Yadav, who also removed Jitesh Sharma (3 off 11) to put DC on top. Krunal Pandya tried to rebuild but was dismissed for 18(18) by Nigam in the 18th over.
Just as RCB seemed to be heading for a sub-par total, Tim David exploded in the final two overs. He took on Axar Patel for 17 runs in the 19th over and, along with Bhuvneshwar Kumar, added 38 runs for the 8th wicket, finishing unbeaten on 37 off 20 balls with 2 fours and 4 sixes.
For Delhi Capitals, Kuldeep Yadav (2/17) and Vipraj Nigam (2/18) were the pick of the bowlers. Mohit Sharma (1/10) and Mukesh Kumar (1/26) chipped in with wickets, while Starc and Axar went wicketless.
Brief Score:
RCB 163/7 (Phil Salt 37, Tim David 37*; Kuldeep Yadav 2/17, Vipraj Nigam 2/18)
vs Delhi Capitals
A balanced total on a batting-friendly pitch, the match is well poised for an exciting chase under the lights at Chinnaswamy.
