Tehran, January 8: Iran’s Foreign Ministry on Thursday condemned what it described as “meddlesome and deceptive remarks” by U.S. officials regarding Iran’s internal developments, calling them a clear indication of Washington’s continued hostility toward the Iranian nation.
In a statement, the ministry said such positions were not driven by concern for the Iranian people but were aligned with a policy of maximum pressure, threats, and interference in Iran’s internal affairs. It accused the United States of seeking to incite violence, terrorism, and unrest in the country.
Addressing the domestic situation, the ministry said that under the principles enshrined in Iran’s Constitution, the Islamic Republic recognizes peaceful protests and works to address legitimate public demands within the framework of the law. It emphasized the importance of taking measures to ease economic difficulties, noting that many of these challenges stem from what it described as an all-out economic and financial war imposed by the United States through illegal and unjust sanctions.
Placing the issue in a broader context, the statement said U.S. actions against Iran extend beyond economic pressure and include psychological warfare, media campaigns disseminating false information, threats of military intervention, and incitement to violence and terrorism. It argued that such actions contradict the principles of the United Nations Charter, peremptory norms of international law, and the foundations of the international human rights system.
The ministry also cited what it called a long history of U.S. hostility and interference in Iran’s internal affairs, referencing events from the August 19, 1953 coup to support for Iraq’s Ba’athist regime during the eight-year war, alleged involvement alongside Israel in the June 2025 attack, and the imposition of sanctions.
Against this backdrop, Iran urged the United Nations and other international institutions to uphold international law, particularly respect for national sovereignty and non-interference in the internal affairs of independent states. It also called on the international community to recognize what it described as the illegal and inhuman nature of unilateral U.S. sanctions, saying they directly affect the livelihoods and daily lives of Iranians and amount to crimes against humanity.
The Foreign Ministry said Iran would confront foreign intervention with vigilance, reliance on its Iranian-Islamic heritage, and strengthened national unity, adding that it would not allow U.S. policies to undermine the country’s sovereignty, independence, or dignity.
The remarks come amid heightened tensions following comments by U.S. President Donald Trump during ongoing protests in Iran. In a post on Truth Social, Trump warned of possible U.S. action, stating that the United States was “locked and loaded” if Iranian authorities used violence against protesters.
Responding to the comments, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said Iran would not yield to pressure, expressing confidence in public support. Protests have spread across several Iranian provinces in recent days, with clashes turning deadly on Wednesday, according to reports.
Senior Iranian officials issued strong warnings against any U.S. intervention. National security chief Ali Larijani said American interference would trigger disruption across the region and damage U.S. interests. Ali Shamkhani, an adviser to Khamenei, warned that Iran’s national security was a red line and that any intervention would face a forceful response.
Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said U.S. forces and facilities across the Middle East would become legitimate targets if Washington intervened, while Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Iran’s armed forces were on standby to respond to any threat to the country’s sovereignty.
In a separate statement, Iran’s Foreign Ministry said U.S. threats violated international law and warned that any aggression against Iran would be met with a decisive and comprehensive response.
