Tel Aviv [Israel], June 14 (ANI): Tensions between Israel and Iran escalated sharply on Saturday as Iran launched approximately 150 ballistic missiles at Israel in two waves, targeting multiple cities and critical infrastructure. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed that the unprecedented barrage included strikes on civilian areas, prompting both Israeli and US defensive responses.
According to The Times of Israel, at least nine impact sites have been reported across the country. Emergency services, including Magen David Adom (MDA), stated that around 22 individuals were injured in the attacks—two seriously, two moderately, and the remainder lightly hurt or suffering from anxiety-related symptoms. The missile strikes caused significant damage in Tel Aviv, including to a high-rise building, and led to a fire in a northern Israeli residential area after missile debris hit a home.
In a statement, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant declared that Iran had “crossed red lines” by launching missiles at civilian population centers. “We will continue to defend the citizens of Israel and ensure that the Ayatollah regime pays a very heavy price for its heinous actions,” he asserted.
The United States is assisting Israel in intercepting the incoming missiles. A US official, speaking to The Times of Israel, confirmed that American defensive assets were engaged in the response, noting the presence of hundreds of thousands of American citizens in Israel. “We are working to protect them,” the official said.
Earlier in the day, the IDF had issued a nationwide alert, stating, “All of Israel is under fire as Iran fires projectiles.”
Following the missile attacks, the IDF confirmed retaliatory strikes against Iran’s nuclear facilities. IDF International Spokesperson Lt. Col. Nadav Shoshani announced via social media: “We can now confirm, IDF has carried out strikes against the nuclear plant in Isfahan. This is in addition to operations in Natanz.”
The strikes mark a significant intensification in the ongoing conflict, with Israel targeting Iran’s critical nuclear infrastructure in direct response to the missile barrage. These retaliatory actions come a day after Israel launched Operation Rising Lion, aimed at dismantling Iran’s nuclear and missile capabilities.
Emergency services across Israel remain on high alert. The Israel Fire and Rescue Service reported rescuing two people trapped in a damaged building in Tel Aviv. Meanwhile, the IDF is preparing for the possibility of further escalation.
As of now, both sides appear committed to their respective military campaigns, and regional security analysts warn that the situation could devolve into a broader conflict if diplomatic de-escalation efforts fail. (ANI)
