Ilam [Iran], April 7 (ANI): Residents in the city of Ilam formed a human chain on Tuesday in a show of defiance against recent threats from US President Donald Trump.
According to Iran’s Tasnim News Agency, the gathering was organized to condemn warnings from the US administration of potential strikes targeting Iran’s critical infrastructure, including bridges and power plants.
Visuals from the scene showed a diverse group of residents, including men, women, and children, lining roads to form a symbolic barrier. Participants held Iranian flags and placards featuring images of national leaders, while many joined hands to create a continuous line along a main thoroughfare.
The demonstration was a direct response to escalating rhetoric from Washington. Residents used the human chain to voice opposition to any planned military action targeting civilian and logistical facilities. Protesters also displayed banners and chanted slogans emphasizing national unity.
The mobilization aligns with a broader national effort to shield strategic assets. Amid rising tensions, Iran’s Deputy Sports Minister Alireza Rahimi has called on athletes and artists to form similar human chains around power plants as both a symbolic and physical deterrent to potential airstrikes.
In a video message, Rahimi invited youth, athletes, artists, students, and faculty to gather near power plants Tuesday at 2 p.m. local time. “These are our wealth and belongings,” he said, urging the public to protect national resources as the White House deadline approaches.
The demonstrations come as President Trump continues to issue strong warnings, suggesting a significant escalation in the conflict. In a post on Truth Social, he warned of potential large-scale destruction while also hinting at possible political change within Iran.
“A whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again. I don’t want that to happen, but it probably will,” Trump wrote, reflecting the severity of the standoff amid reports of US strikes on Kharg Island and other strategic sites.
Despite the warning, Trump suggested that a new political reality could emerge in Tehran, stating that “now that we have complete and total regime change, where different, smarter, and less radicalized minds prevail, maybe something revolutionary wonderful can happen—who knows?”
He framed the escalation as the culmination of decades of hostility, adding that “47 years of extortion, corruption, and death will finally end,” and concluded with a message of support for the Iranian people.
The remarks underscore Trump’s ultimatum for Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. He has warned that failure to comply would result in a large-scale bombing campaign targeting Iran’s electric generating plants and bridges.
Trump said the objective would be to leave these facilities “burning, exploding, and never to be used again” within a four-hour window, adding, “The entire country could be taken out in one night.”
Describing the moment as a “critical period,” Trump said Washington had given Tehran 10 days to reach an agreement.
“They have till tomorrow. Now we will see what happens… After that, they are going to have no bridges. They are going to have no power plants. Stone Age,” he said, reiterating that the ultimatum represents a final opportunity for Tehran to avoid widespread infrastructure damage. (ANI)
