Washington, D.C. [US], June 16 (ANI): Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has made a bold claim, stating that Iran’s Islamic regime is actively seeking to assassinate U.S. President Donald Trump due to his hardline stance against Tehran’s nuclear ambitions. Speaking to Fox News on Sunday (local time), Netanyahu said, “They want to kill him. He’s enemy number one.”
Netanyahu emphasized that Trump has been a significant obstacle to Iran’s nuclear goals, citing the former president’s rejection of the 2015 Iran nuclear deal and the targeted killing of Iranian General Qasem Soleimani. “He’s a decisive leader. He never took the path that others took to try to bargain with them in a way that is weak,” Netanyahu said. “He tore up this fake agreement and made it very clear: ‘You cannot have a nuclear weapon, which means you cannot enrich uranium.’”
The Israeli Prime Minister also claimed that he himself has been targeted by Iran, recounting an incident where a missile was allegedly fired into the bedroom window of his residence. Describing himself as Trump’s “junior partner” in confronting Iran, Netanyahu warned that Israel faces a dual existential threat: a nuclear-armed Iran and a rapidly expanding arsenal of Iranian ballistic missiles.
“We were facing an imminent threat,” he said. “Iran is rushing to weaponize their enriched uranium with a declared intent to destroy us, and simultaneously increasing their ballistic missile production capacity—up to 3,600 weapons a year, and eventually tens of thousands.”
Netanyahu said such a volume of high-speed missiles, potentially totaling 20,000 within 26 years, poses a survival-level challenge to a small nation like Israel. In response, he justified Israel’s aggressive countermeasures, framing them as necessary for both national and global security.
He detailed “Operation Rising Lion,” which he characterized as “one of the greatest military operations in history,” aimed at setting back Iran’s nuclear and missile capabilities. According to Netanyahu, many of Iran’s retaliatory ballistic missiles were intercepted, but the threat remains.
He reiterated that negotiations with Iran have proven fruitless and warned that Israel is prepared to do whatever it takes to neutralize the threat. Addressing the Iranian people directly, Netanyahu said they had suffered under the same oppressive regime for half a century—a regime that continues to threaten the very existence of the State of Israel.
